There are lots of folks here your age and older learning to play again including yours truly. I started up after a 35-year break and after a year or so was beyond my former abilities. Unless there is a specific and serious physical or mental condition, age is not an impediment to learning guitar. Arthritis in the fret hand? Activity generally helps arthritis...it certainly helps more than inactivity.

Guitar Tricks is an outstanding place to learn guitar...you have nothing to lose in the attempt and a huge amount to gain.

Aging is inevitable, growing old is a state of mind and a choice. Go for it! And go for it now!!
"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."
