If you read spk's post you'll see that he is referring to De-Tuning, down 1 whole step, looking to make make some rumble I guess, not play Black Moutain Side, a "D" tuning could mean alot of things, it could be a chordal tuning or a modal tuning or whatever the twisted mind can imagine...

here's a Pagey D tuning which is DADGAD, fairly easy to remember.

Initially hard to get to grips with..but most useful for riffs

Accuracy,you say? hmm interesting concept..

It seems like you are asking how to physically tune the guitar a whole step down. If that is right, here's what you do.
Tune down the bass e string so that the seventh fret note is an a, and it is the same note as the next string down. Then, play the fifth fret note on the e string (a G now), and tune the A string to match that. Then, tune as normal with the other strings (ie. to the fifth fret of the one above it, except to the fourth with the b string).

If he wants to tune full D that means he's dropping EBGDAE to DAFCGD. I cant tune worth diddly so I use a tuner. Anyways I think thats what hes referring to.
