1.) If it's put in correctly -
ie, with single coils the part with the leads faces the bridge,humbuckers usually having the screws toward the neck at the neck pickup and right next to the bridge at the bridge.
2.) It's put in the right place-
neck pickup in neck position (etc) mainly to make sure the strings cross the polls properly and the polarity is correct. Middles on strats generally are reverse wound /reverse polarity (RW/RP) to give hum cancelling in p 2 and 4 on the selector.
3.) It's wired correctly -
make sure the new white wire goes where the old white lead went,etc.

Strat wiring is a right larf as long as you remember the golden rules..
1.get a diagram
2.get a diagram
3.get the switch positions right
