I was looking at the homepage of guitartricks, and I noticed the N.E.S button, next to all the great guitarists we all love... I wondered for a moment who's that guy? Another mysterious guy, like buckethead? So I clicked on it, and what a surprise, all my favorite video games' music!! There's everything, the mario theme, zelda, etc...

Here's my question. Do you quote video games or tv themes in your solos? If so, which ones? And why? Do you think quoting is useful? Is it foolish?

I personnally love inspector gadget, it adds a jazzy flavor to my lines. I use quotes a lot because I tend to shred on the guitar, and it's like I was saying to the audience, "see, I'm not doing that to impress you, it's just what I hear in my head"

Once I asked a band I know if they could play the
"Zelda" theme, and they said no but 3½ minutes
later they had learned it.
Whoa!
That song is really heavy if you play it metal style!
I think its cool to play, but I dont think I would quote
anything like that in my solos.
I dont think its stupid or wrong, I just dont
do it much.
Although The "Beverly Hills" theme is actually
really cool to play, so sometimes I might mix
that in just for the fun of it.

By the way when I discovered the NES section myself I couldnt help posting a trick.
Do you know how you get it in to the NES section?

Anyway its called "Tetris Mania" and its in the
"alternative" section if you want to listen to it.

I've always liked the music from Cannon Fodder.

"War never been so much fun" ba da da da.
"War never been so much fun,
when your dyin in your uniform,
dyin in the sun"

Ahhhh, the good ol' days

The Zelda theme is great, and so is the theme from Mario when he is in the cave levels. I occaisionally add a bit of that sort of thing, because you know the odd person in the audience is going to appreciate it.
"Dozens of people spontaneously combust each year, it's just not that widely reported".

As Jon once explained in a thread, the buttons are only a pre-written thing in the 'search' field. So I guess that if you write 'nintendo/video games/ etc...' in your tricks' explanation, it will end up in there.

The best game music is by far Final Fantasy.
