I'm just starting out with the basics and really getting into it. I'm thinking if buying a spare guitar to leave at work so I can have a practice in lunch hour.
Is it advisable to do this or not. As it wouldn't be the same make of guitar as my home one due to budget.
Advise please?

Many thanks
Jon

I think that is a great idea. You'll be significantly extending your amount of practice time! It could even be a different type or size, let alone different manufacturer.

Now, if you are working on technique that requires a different type of guitar, that's different - like whammy bars stuff would require an electric with a whammy bar, tapping might not work too well on an acoustic, etc. Since you are starting out, that's probably not an issue.

I practice mostly on my electric guitars. My daughter has a 3/4 acoustic. Many times I'll grab her guitar and run though some things while we are putting the kids to bed. My pratice on that guitar is useful and productive even though it isn't the same as the guitar I normally play.

never heard of an extra guitar !!!!! to mention a few possibilities .... have 12 string acoustic, 12 string acoustic electric, 6 string acoustic, 6 string electro acoustic, 6 string nylon, etc ....... and don't even get started on electric guitars...

Extremely good idea! You can really make that lunch hour count, if you are motivated to do so :)
