I got the opportunity once for the guitar player in Saga to show me some stuff, he took me backstage but the roadies had already packed up his gear so he only showed me 'air guitar' style. The closest I ever came to a really big name guitar player was Van Halen...at Maple Leaf Gardens through a pair of binoculars, he was half an inch tall...amazing player for such a small guy.
Ever met a famous/semi famous guitar player

I met Mike Stern after a show of his at the blue note. He was cool, I didn't speak to him that much, but he seemed like a nice guy. He sorta looks like a bum, his hair covers his face, speaks real soft. If he didn't have a guitar i wudda given him a quarter. Not much of a story, hehe. He's a great guitarrist though, if you don't know him, check him out. He played with miles davis in the 70s, then got into fusion. He's got a real distinctive sound.

I got 50 feet from Clapton, 10 feet from Vai, and 40 feet from Satch. (I take tape measures to the concerts ) I have yet to speak to them.
