Hi everyone
Hi, my name is Karen; I live in Az, and I am brand new to guitar. My husband just bought me a Gibson SGJ guitar, and a Vox vt20 plus amp as an early Christmas present, and I love my new setup! I also got a guitar DVD tutorial by Mark John Sternal, it's a good DVD, but it is not structured as well as it could be, and it doesn't go into enough detail. I was thinking about traditional guitar lessons, but for now, I really need something that will allow me to go at my own pace and schedule, so I thought I would give GuitarTricks a try. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and happy to be on this new journey!

Hi Karen & Welcome.... well isn't your hubby a nice guy!! Since you'e brand new to guitar, a couple of in-person lessons with a good instructor would be a sound investment... just to get you going on some basic mechanics. If you're brand new to guitar & haven't played any other string instruments then you won't have callouses yet, (muahahaha!) It takes a while for your fingertips to harden up so it doesn't hurt to play... just be patient, eventually they will. There's lots of great lessons here, and always the forum if you have any questions. Try to set clear objectives for yourself with your playing. Whether its wanting to learn the blues, become a jazz improvisational player, or just learn a simple song, its always good to have goals & a plan so you're not just practicing random things that you'll never end up using. The fundamentals courses will give you a good general introduction, but still try to have goals and work towards them even as you go through those. All the best!

Welcome, Karen!
