Firstly hello all :)
I am glad to be finally back in the swing of things.
This time last year I was learning to play guitar (trying to let out my hot chick rockstar at home dream) and was doing well with all the basics. I had gotten to the point of learning patterns to a song or two and was quite happy with my progress. Then in December I fell down some stairs and broke both my wrists badly. Four surgeries an a whole year later I am ready to start again but my guitar teacher has left town (small town no replacements) so I am on here looking at online lessons.
I'm just wondering what anyone else's beginner experiences and progress has been like here? I am pretty sure I haven't retained any skills from previous teachings so I feel like I am completely new again and my wrists work differently now so I'm excited to see how they go too!! 😄 my guitar just got posted back to me so I'm now eager to start instead of looking at her sitting there wanting to be played with 😉
Are there any classes you recommend? I'm planning to start from basics lesson one. Any help or support would be welcome!

Wow, sorry to hear what happened to you! I've made loads of progress since I joined here, hope you do too. I'm sure once you pick up the guitar, all the stuff you learned before will come back to you.

Good luck!

I joined this site a year ago, and so far, I can honestly say I don't regret it. The lessons are very high quality, and I don't think I could find a better place to learn to play guitar. And the best thing is: You can always review a lesson as many times as needed and you can learn at your own pace.

Actually, yes, there is. There's the Core Learning System which is actually 4 different courses you can go through. The best idea will be to start with the Guitar Fundamentals Level 1 course, which covers exactly what the name implies; the very basics of playing guitar. Once you've gone through that, there's the Guitar Fundamentals Level 2 course, which digs into some more advanced, but important subjects like scales and music-theory, as well as Barre Chords. After that, you can choose freely, but I recommend going checking out the Rock, Blues or Country Courses, depending on what style of music you want to play, as those help you get the techniques right, help you get a great tone for your gear and give you an idea of how to make music in those respective styles.

And the general rule is: When in doubt, ask away on the forums.

Have fun with your guitar-playing :)

This site has everything to keep you busy on your guitar for years. I sympathise with you over your broken wrists, I've broken my left arm 3 times now and the last time was really bad, it left me with permanent nerve damage and it definitely feels different playing guitar but after adjusting to it it hasn't held me back. Best of luck and keep us updated on how it goes :)
