I think you've got it backwards, or your amp has the switches labeled backwards...
Fuzzbox is right... power on first... the tubes should start to glow (you have power to the amp) but no sound. Then after a bit, turn on the Standby switch so that you have sound. If you turn the Standby on first, then hit power, you're not allowing the tubes to warm up first, you're just going instantly to full "on" mode. You can tell if you're doing this because the amp will start really quiet, and then get louder as the tubes warm up.
