What kind of experiences have you got from scalloped necks?

I left my guitar to my teacher who carves the neck from the 12 fret scalloped, I'll get it on tuesday and I can't wait.

I personally like necks that have been scalloped, but what about you people?

Last year i bought this cheap guitar. the squire stratpack. the one that comes inside a box with a 22 watt amp and some cable and picks. and since im a BIG BIG BIG fan of yngwie j Malmsteen i decided to do some scalloping on it. i did it from the first fret to the 21st. I never had any trouble playing it.. actually it gives me more room for my fingers if you know what i mean. you can do bars for sweep picking easily. you can reach a note easily on bends. Yngwie Malmsteen once said that it is harder to play a scalloped fretboard than the ordinary fretboard, i dont know why he said that. but for me playing a scalloped fretboard makes it a lot easier.

Because he's a liar.

Actually, he probably said it because you can easily bend notes out of tune completely by accident. Yngwie has this problem quite a bit, in fact, since his entire fretboard is scalloped. It's just impossible to play with such a light touch the whole time when you're playing that fast.

Malmsteen is a cocky bastard. Satriani thinks he's an arsehole. A friend of mine went to see him in concert. Apparently he kinda forgets he has a band and thinks he's god. I hate guitarists like that.

I'm not exactly sure, I just know what it is, I'll let someone else answer this question, so that you and I both can learn something.

Me too. I'd love to know if there was really a benefit.

I think its got something to do with giving you the feel of bigger frets. Atleast thats the idea I got from a magazine...

yea Vai and Malmsteen are good friends but Satriani and Malm dont like eachother. It was Vai's idea to let him tour on G3. Actually, Malmsteen think Satriani is not a good guitarist and therefore dislikes him.

It allows the guitarist to play a little faster. He doesn't have to press the string down as hard.

Id much rather see Eric Johnson with Vai and Satch than Malmsteen, especially with what Ive heard about Malmsteen now. Hes such a show boat. When Satch or Vai is leading a song, hes still gotta try to be the center of the show.

Ha! I knew this would turn into an Yngwie roast!

Being a blues fan I guess maybe I'm little biased :D but Malmsteen is one of the most uninspired players I've ever heard or seen

Malmsteen is Indeed a cocky son of a bitch... but he's the best guitar player i've ever heard in my life. Im a music teacher . teacher for those majoring in classical guitar and other subjects involving music. and if you've heard of this subject that i use to study back in college, music theory, which follows every rule on composing a classical arrangement, Its very complicated. So for those who dont appreciate malmsteen's playing and music, well so sorry for you. these kind of things are only for those who understand how it works. steve vai is good. joe satriani really sucks (from what i've seen and heard from his playing he only knows 3 scales) and Malmsteen.?? Try to play like he does. it would take you years. thank god i've been listening to his music since i was 12.
