Hell yes! I'm working also on new songs, I'd like to write my own album, but I'm not sure about my vision, how the album might look and sound like.

yea I've written plenty of songs in the past for the three main bands I've been a member of over the years, although they were all punk bands but I've written over 40 songs, sometimes just the music other times music and lyrics. Now I've left those bands and I've just got a new band together which is more rock influenced so the music is more challenging, we've just had our first jam last sunday and it went really well, we managed to get 4 song ideas from that practice and i'm really looking forward to the next practice session :)

My advice to all of you is to take a small digital recorder with you wherever you may go, even phones have built in recorders nowdays. Keep your eyes and ears open all the time, if you take the time to look around you will find many interesting things you can write about. Also, you never know when a good melody line is going to come to you and you must be ready to capture it when it does, as you might not get a second chance. I find that when i'm sad, I write sad songs. When i'm happy, I write happy songs. Also, try to explore different guitar tunings and different chord inversions, as this will sometimes kick start a new song idea. Good luck to all of you, and happy songwriting.

I have written 2 songs and am working on a 3rd. It is quite a challenge to write your own music but very rewarding!

Songwriting has been a daily process for me, and I sense that much of what I learn in writing are different ways to express some of the same thoughts.

I agree, I find myself embellishing an idea once it comes to me. Keep milking it, it can be frustrating though. When I feel like that I walk away for awhile.

Im having that issue too, I can go in so many directions. Now I am just writing whatever comes with the idea that I can add or subtract material to better define what I feel it should be.

THEN, I saw (based on a tip from a friend) a FREE songwriting class to teach the structure and mechanics of how to churn out a song in an organized way.
Now I haven't signed up yet but it is priority one once I get moved (soon I hope)

I've tried a bit of songwriting in the past, but I got stuck, so I decided to take a break from it. I'd like to get back into it, but I have trouble coming up with great riffs I can use in songs. I also have quite a lot of trouble putting words on what I want to say, so that's kind of discouraging too. However, while listening to some music on my computer today, I noticed that songs don't need to follow the traditional format in order to sound great. So there's still hope!

I can rattle off verses as fast as I can write them down, once I fix on a subject, but I've never put a tune to them.

Funny. My problem is exactly the opposite. I can come up with riffs and licks easily enough, I just can't put any lyrics to them. I've tried a few dozen tines, and every single time, it sounds overly cliche. The melody, though? No problem with that, given some time with the guitar.

lol beware - first you write a few songs, you then enter the mysterious world of recording. Suddenly you're life is consumed with arranging, production , mastering etc. Before you know it you're so bogged down in the technical aspects of that, you don't have time to write songs .....
Writing my third CD at the mo - make a few cents a month (literally) out of the last couple, but it's the most satisfying money I've ever earned... more so than playing covers in a club / pub band...
My tip? Just do it and keep doing it, if it sounds right then it is, things will fall into place and someone somewhere will probably like it!

Yes, although songwriting is not my strong suit. Guitar playing is my main talent, and I'm just starting to write for a song on an upcoming album.

I have four copyrights from the 80's however I think I am not writing the best songs of my life. I hope to record an album over the summer. Of coarse, I was just thinking how it will be my last frivolous investment. It will be an utter shock if I sell one, however, it's what I always wanted to do.
