I started this site about a year ago then left it and now I'm back. Maybe this time I can get full use of the site.

Just like others I'm sure is excited to learn something new. So I wondered on and off several sites to learn but I'm now back and this site offers more in learning step by step.

I'm not music minded at all but since I started to learn music I can play several bits and pieces of songs now. I need to learn how to retain what I'm learning better. I hope others can help me on this.

Like to say hi to everyone an good luck on their journey in playing to the fullest potential

Welcome back!! It seems like it would be hard to beat the step by step instruction you get here.

As far as remembering what you've learned - repetition is the key. As the saying goes...if you don't use it, you lose it. If you want to remember something and have it ready at command, add it to your practice routine to run through it at least once. Once you've committed it to memory, it will retain longer. If you commit it to long term memory and it starts to fade, it's also easier to bring it back. But my experience has been that if you want it in long term memory, you have to repeat playing it over and over and over and over...

So, each time you sit down to learn something new on your guitar, make sure you review what you've learned previously and run through any licks or progressions you want to retain.

Boy that's the truth. I read somewhere that you must learn something and forget it three times before you can begin to retain it. I think it's more like 10 times for me but I guess three is the average.

I think at repetition #3 it begins to stick for me :-). It gets easier when you can relate things, and the more you learn, the more things you have in your arsenal to relate it to.
