Here's the problem:
Either you are a guitarists' guitarist (shredder, or a virtuoso) and people that don't play the guitar think your music should be banished from the airwaves, or you make music that lots of people love, and musicians consider you have sold out and consider that your music is just like Britney Spears'...

Now, that's a dilemna: make music for the sake of being a really good guitarist (but only to guitarists' eyes) or just making music that's listenable to (Eric Clapton, or Santana are considered as the ultimate guitarists by lots of people, and Jimi HENDRIX like a god, even though noone can tell you three of his songs)
