when transposing sheet music. for instance key of G directly to key of C
where is the C played at on the guitar, 3 rd fret of the "A" string, orin a different
place

I think your C would become an F, wouldn't it?

I'm not sure I understand your question, but transposing G to C would be up a 4th.

So G 6th string 3rd fret would be C 5th string 3rd fret.

It depends which G you're are talking about. You could transpose down a 5th for example; 3rd fret high E string G down to C 1st fret 2nd string.
