Greetings. My name is Jeremy and I admit it, I have a string fetish.

I have been messing with guitar since I was about 12. Over the years I have acquired a couple 6-string acoustics, a 6-string electric guitar, 6-string electric bass, and a 5-string Banjo. Early influences included my grandpa, Van Halen, Metallica, Genesis, and a string of virtuoso butt rock guitarists far too long and embarrassing to even list.

More recently I am discovering that while I was buried in the mainstream commercial music machine I was missing out on a world of folk, blues, country and bluegrass. I am now fervently trying to catch up.

I hesitate to call myself a musician or guitar player, for fear of insulting the real ones out there. I'm a music lover. I play for fun, for creative self expression, for therapy. I've never been able to motivate myself to get serious about lessons and the few experiences I've had have been very frustrating. I am hoping that spending some time plugged in here will help me assess my strengths and weaknesses and give me a reference point from which to take my playing and love for music to the next level.

Looking forward to hopefully meeting some fellow lovers of music!

Jeremy

If you're checking out Folk, Kingston Trio may interest you. YouTube has a bunch of videos. My mom liked them before I was born in 1961 so I grew up listening to then now and then. Most of the time one guy plays a 6 string, one guy plays a 12 string and the other guy plays banjo. Taiwan Jail, Tom Dooley is the first two to come to mind right now.

Hey thanks for the tip, I appreciate it. I'll definitely check them out. I've really been enjoying a 3-person band called the Devil Makes Three recently, as well as a whole host of old Johnny Cash, John Prine and others... Someday I hope to be able to sing while I strum as well as they do.

Hi Jeremy,

Good to have you with us, it's great that you're expanding your musical taste. There's so much good stuff out there in many styles. VH is my favorite player though.

Did you check out our John Prine and Johnny Cash song lessons yet?
