I'm practically done with Beginner Level 1, but what I've not yet resolved is fretting B major.

All fingers are doing as requested, but that index finger is just laying down laterally to the far left. In other words, the tip of that finger is not on the string. Even if I physically lift it up to stay up straight, it just drops back down onto its side :(

If anyone else here has had this problem and overcame it, please let me know how.

I thought the F chord was going to be a difficult one, and yet I can get it working 60% of the time, which is good because I can keep practising and it will improve, but that B major!

All I can think of doing for now is to try to stretch the index finger side ways so that it has more flexibility to stay up straight.

I play it with my my indexfinger on the side. The top of this finger is on de A-string, muting the e-string a bit.
Have you problems with all the three ways to handle it?

I see. So, not too bad then, though it feels awkward at the moment.
This is the one I'm having problems with

What are the alternatives to this B? I'm not yet sure if I know how to identify variations of B major. Do they have different names?

Same chord( and name), different fingering.
See the video about 02.20...

Even worse alternative for me since I don't have big or flexible enough fingers for that. I'll have to think about which of these two devils to work on, because both are impossible for me at the moment.

The way I play the B-Major (and B-Minor, for that matter) is I fret the A String on the 2nd fret with my index finger (not using it to barre across the other strings), then fret the other three strings like I would normally fret a Power Chord or A Major/Minor and only play the 4 middle strings (I use the finger on the B-string to also mute the e-String so it doesn't ring). Works pretty well for me so far.
