Whenever I access tabs or lessons on my computer, and play along with my electric guitar, I experience a buzzing tone that comes through the amplifier. What is this ,is there any fix for it, and could it potentially harm the electrics of my guitar? The closer I get to my computer, the louder the buzzing noise becomes.

You probably have a guitar with single coil pickups. I have this problem with my strat.

The only solution I know of is to move away from the computer. For me, I just have to be a couple of feet away from my laptop. I got a wireless mouse for my laptop to allow me to do this so I can navigate the website but be back a bit from the computer.

With my les paul with humbuckers, it isn't a problem.

Yes, this is a problem with my Johnston Strat guitar. I read online that the problem lies within a computer with an LCD screen. I would still like feedback with this problem. Would using an old tube monitor help clear up the feedback?

I used to have this problem with a tube monitor, I doubt that switching to a tube monitor will help.

If you switch to the out of phase position on the pickup selector, the noise is much less noticeable.

I used to turn off my monitor when I was recording to kill the noise.

Yes, I will do that if I use an external monitor, but the problem is that I am trying to follow lessons on the site using my laptop. This doesn't harm the electronics in the guitar or amp, does it?

It doesn't harm anything, as far as I know. It is a common problem using guitars and computers together. It is harmless, just annoying.

Yeah, like Jon said its just interference from the monitor it won't hurt anything. Its just bothersome if it gets too loud. If you're gonna play in front of the monitor its just something you have to deal with. Usually once, you get into playing you kind tune it out.
