I just went through the first lessons of the Basics course, and really did pick up a few things from Christopher Schlegel that I never knew before. This includes a different (proper) way of holding a pick and how to strike the strings without a pick. I instantly felt, and heard, a difference. I struggle with the left hand first and foremost because my fingernails are attached too close to the tip of my finger to get a good contact surface. Having short, strength-challenged (relatively weak) fingers doesn't help. So I must make some adjustments from optimal posture, fretting, etc. But it truly could be worse. I think that these lessons will come in handy, and help me become a better player. Actually, as mentioned above, they already have. I wish that playing came to me as naturally as singing. Well, I suppose if I had everything, I would have been rock star: Cheers.
Finessing the good fight.
Greetings all. I've been attempting to play the guitar for about 9 years now. I started rather late in life (46 years old), but always liked to sing, so I was convinced by a friend to play the guitar. I took a few lessons. It's hard to say just who was more frustrated, me or the instructor. It's great that video instructors don't get frustrated, and you can watch them over and over until you "get it".
