Apparently Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi yesterday. This was mid-tour and he left just before a concert in Calgary. The announcement was that "He left for personal reasons". Of course that was the announcement; it always is.

I don't know anything more about it than that. And I'm not really a big Bon Jovi fan but I respect Sambora's abilities. Just interesting.

Phil X of The Drills is gonna' take his place for the tour. I first heard of him about a year ago on Fretted Americana where he demo's awesome and rare guitars. A Phil X video ALWAYS inspires me to pick up my guitar!

From nj1015.com:

"The real reason Richie Sambora has left Bon Joviā€™s tour could be somewhere between the stated ā€œpersonal issuesā€ and reports of a feud between Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi. The New York Postā€™s Page Six reports Samboraā€™s departure from the band before Tuesday nightā€™s concert in Calgary came at the urging of Jonā€™s wife Dorthea who wants the tour to be alcohol-and-drug free.

ā€œJon [Bon Jovi] has been trying to get rid of him. He drinks constantly and has a stream of Hollywood bimbos around all the time,ā€ a band insider told the Post.

The insider says Sambora, who has done several rehabilitation stints over the past few years ā€œdidnā€™t believe in rehab.ā€

Sambora may also be upset over the poor sales of his recent solo album and the failure of his clothing line, White Trash Beautiful."
"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."

That's too bad. I don't know if alcohol was a problem with other members of band, including Bon Jovi, but, especially if so, I have to commend Dorthea for her position.

I heard about that. That's crazy. I saw Bon Jovi 2 years ago. They are amazing live. And Richie brings a lot to the table. Hope they work through it.

I didn't know he left Bon Jovi. He was a mainstay with Bon Jovi. I know he was a primary songwriter with Jon. That's too bad.

It is really sad to leave the tour like that. I can understand issue within the band but who really suffers, the fans.

They paid hard earned money to see the whole band and for him to drop out shows me how selfish he really is. Richie needs to grow up and get it together.

I think Jon has tried to help him in general. Richie had a beautiful wife and life but threw it all a way.

It is too bad such a talent person takes all his gifts for granted. I am sure most people would love to be as successful and respected as he is.

I another rock star who can not handle the fame and never grew up.

Oh well hopefully Bon Jovi will live on. :-)

Sambora was with ex-wife Locklear and their daughter in Hawaii a couple weeks ago. Meanwhile, he's touring Ireland this summer with his new band and still smarting from last year's break-up with Bon Jovi,

"While the reasons have never been fully disclosed, Sambora is not best pleased that Bon Jovi headed out on last yearā€™s Because We Can tour, which included a Slane stop-off, without him.ā€œAt the end of the day, if youā€™re going to buy a can of Coke, you want the real thing.ā€ he said recently. ā€œJon just has a different mentality. I know Mick Jagger wouldnā€™t tour without Keith Richards and call it the Rolling Stones.ā€Asked whether he might one day return to the ranks, he added: ā€œThere will have to be a lot of communication, a lot of talking.ā€

I'm a HUGE Fan of Richie's,But,since the early 2000's you could TELL Something was Wrong with Richie behind the Spotlight.
My Ex-Wife's Child Hood Friend,BOBBY BANDIERA,of SOUTH SIDE JOHNNY and the ASBURY JUKES Fame, started taking stage with Bon Jovi,Taking Up for Richie, who Obviously was having trouble covering his own Guitar Playing from early Bon Jovi on,Bobby was there onstage, out of the Spotlight to Avoid any MAJOR Controversy I Suppose, but,I believe That Richie and Jon wer having a STRAINED Relationship ON and OFF Stage. Gone werer the days of Jon and Richie Sharing the Spotlight during Solos or Both Hamming it up for the audience during Harmonizing on some songs. It was really sad,They STILL Sounded AWESOME,BUT,I think that's in BIG Part of BOBBY Helping Out so Richie had his Back Covered,no longer being able to take on the Role of SINGLE Guitar Slinger in a One Guitar Band,...john's Ryth Playing not withstanding. Jon was trying to keep BON JOVI ON THE MAP,along with being CLEAN and Sober,I Last saw them in 3006 LIVE at NJ/NY MEADOWLANDS,They KICKED ASS,BUT,Richie seemed SUBDUED,You KNEW Something was Up if You were a FAN of the Band.
I HOPE Richie gets his SH-T Together and finds his Way to Getting BACK in CONTROL of his life and Excorsizing his Personal Demons. No Matter What,He is and Always will be one of the ROCK GUITARISTS that Kept ROCK'N'Roll bands Filling the Stadiums,I HOPE that Someday,WITH or WITHOUT Bon Jovi,He gets Cleaned Up and HAPPY with hisife, and Brings Back the OLD GUITAR HERO Without the Monkey on his back,...it's KILLING HIM. PLEASE GET SOME HELP MAN And FIND YOUR WAY BACK!!!

I just found this:

Bon Jovi guitarist hopes new song helps addicts, http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/4e67281c3f754d0696fbfdee0f3f1469/Article_2014-05-28-US-People-Richie-Sambora/id-f7ee8f0027cb4a54a4c5f21022b1d46f

"Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora drew on his own past in debuting a song... about providing hope to people mired in addiction. He acknowledged he once abused drugs but said he's clean now...

"Sambora said drugs had nothing to do with his departure from Bon Jovi last year. He said the band tried to do too much too soon and he needed a break from the pace. "It was my family," he said. "We've been doing this for over 30 years. I'm the guy who wrote these songs, who co-produced the records. We would tour for 12 to 18 and a half months. My last tour was 52 countries. ... You realize you miss a lot of life." Sambora said he expects to rejoin Bon Jovi but has no time frame."

A bit of a different tone and story from what we heard after the 'break up'.
"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."
