You're not way off base at all, it's a good question. There are usually many layers of guitars being used in a recording and that makes it hard to pick out a "one guitar" part.

Without doing a full lesson on this one it sounds like boom-chick is at the core of the guitar playing with some chick-ah-chick-ahs (DUDU) thrown in subtly.

To me it sounds good as just boom-chick or boom-chick chick-ah-chick-ah.
