Depends. I think lessons for beginners is a very good idea so that people develop good technique and break bad habits. Not every is able to reach the stage of playing Yngwie/Petrucci/Vai/Becker without needing guidance on technique first. But many are. It depends on the person. If lessons take a very productive form than it is very beneficial. If you're just learning songs you could get the tabs for off the net anyways, then maybe not.

Regardless, everyone can benefit of lessons from one sort or another. Nobody is above learning.
