I heard the same thing from many. It seems like drums to guitar might be a rough transition because the coordination is so different. But I think if you stick with guitar you'll break away from the hurdles that affect you now.

The bonus is, once you get over the mechanics of playing guitar you've got all that drum rhythmical knowledge that you can apply to guitar. I've noticed drummers really understand phrasing well and seem to excel at other instruments (Dave Grohl, Steven Tyler, Phil Collins come to mind)
