hello

i started playing guitar when I was 12 years old but had to stop when I was 20 when I had to take up my internship at school. After that getting started again seemed to be so hard. Now, I'm 25 and it has been 5 years since I really picked up my guitar. I wanted to form back a band but I feel that I'm left behind..

where do I begin again? It seems that a lot has come up since last time I played.. new sounds.. everything has changed.. any views would be greatly appreciated. thanks..

I did stop for two years once, after that break I went on for ten years.

I remember starting again from the bottom, learning chords, doing some scales.

It was really hard even thought I was young.

I think the best thing would be to start with songs you used to play. Just learn the chords once again.

I would start there, pick up a few old songs and enjoy the memories :)

After that go for some scales (build speed and accuracy)

I wouldn't get into a band for at least 6 months, give yourself time to get those skills back.

I agree with Benoit!! I think you should begin with the fundamentals, like theory, chords, scales, etc.

I think the best advice would be to simply dive in again. Have some fun, get immersed in guitar. After that, you'll know exactly where you want to take it again.

Since you haven't played, it's not cool to go fast anymore, so play slow riffs on ill tuned guitars, paint yourself black (or wear a leather mask) buy a 7 strings, and then, write songs that sell lots of records....

Whatever you start from, enjoy the trip. Pick a song you like, try and play it, share it with the world.

Write a song, to tell your girlfriend how nice she looks, or how the world is a nice place, or only to cry your anger...

Music makes the world a better place, it's what god has given us to talk to other people's heart without words...

Enjoy...
