Hi All,

New to the forum. I started playing guitar very, very casually about 6 years ago. I attempted to step up my playing by starting lessons about 1 year ago but would still not stay that I am anywhere near good.

So, to the strange question; When I was a kid, I accidently sliced off the end of my index finger on my right hand (I should mention I play left handed guitar). The nail was not affected at all but I basically chamfered away my whole finger pad. This has mostly grown back over the years but the tip still protrudes noticeable less than on the other fingers. I have managed to practice around this and, to be honest, it probably makes very little difference but I still feel it’s a hindrance. I think that if I had some sort of a clip to go around my finger pad and nail then it would push the tip out a bit and reduce the surface area required to fret strings. Does anything like this exist? - I understand that this is probably not a common problem, so probably not! I’m going to try an elastic band to see if that helps but I was basically wondering if something prettier existed.

Thanks,
Eds

HI Ed , welcome to Guitar tricks..
Something like this might work..
http://www.medexsupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=3418
I surfed under medical supply (medical finger guard)
Other people here may know of something, but I bet there would not be a great call for something like that made for guitar player.. The cost looked low enough to purchase for experimentation.. 4 sizes, 12 per order.. $6.25 plus shipping..
There were a few other site that I didnot check.. The first checked was right on the money in my mind.
I have tried a sewing thimble but not for protection. More of a one finger slide.. ROTFL
Good luck

Hi Compart1,

That is basically what Im looking for! I just had my new guitar setup correctly and the action lowering substantially. I seem to be coping a little better with it now but might have to give them a try also.

Cheers,
Eds
