I think that there are a lot of guitarists that are similar but not really comparable. How do we compare Eddie Van Halen to Eric Clapton. Angus Youngs riff magic to the soloing and rhythmic magic of SRV. These guys are awesome in their own niche.

BUT...my favorites...

SRV
EVH
Eric Clapton
Angus Young
Randy Rhodes
and that six year old on youtube, Zoey, she is far better than me.

Rock On.

The best way to look at it, is not to rank them 1st to.... because they are incomparable. Hendrix, Clapton, Buddy Guy and the rest all have different personnalities, style, speed, different playing hands...
The way to see them is as the Elite Guitar Players. Now when you see a guitarist, ask yourself: 'is he/she good enough to be part of that Elite?

Joe Bonamassa is phenominal. I saw him at the Wang Theatre in Boston. He blew me away! I wish I could learn 1/100th of what he forgot in his career!

Jim.

There would just be too many to name. Could be a copout answer, but there are so many who've been an inspiration.
