Why does this Modulation (pivot chord) not work
Ok so I tried this and failed, my chord progression went C, G7, F, B, A, D7, E and it didn't work. What went wrong?

It's honestly all in the intention of the progression, and how quickly you change chords. Also, the vocal melody is important too. The melody is always king. That's why in jazz all those crazy progressions fit together; as the melody gels them all together.
I played through this, and found replacing the B with Bb sounded better to me. Give it a try. :D

so, you're trying to modulate to E? or to A? i'm guessing E because you through that B in there? the B won't work from the F because it's a tri-tone. but also the D7 doesn't really make alot of sense in either A, C or E. Try "modulating" to a closer key.
