I think it would be a interest to all of us to hear what goes into the process of putting new songs and material on Guitar Tricks. Lots of guys keep asking for the real song hits, You know the Classics, and I just don't see that happening here on Guitar tricks. I am finding my way back to You Tube where you can get the song free of charge. I must say the last 20 new tunes or so, I never heard of the artist or the songs, So thats another Question, How and by who is requesting these tunes? Are these new songs being requested from members or are you just throwing songs on the list because those are the ones you can get.? Is it that they are cheaper to get the rights , or are some of the Artist out there being a pain? Even some of your lessons had to be pulled account of copy rights. How come you can get this stuff or some of it for free other places on line and then you guys say you cant post it on your site?? So it would be interesting to hear what the process is to getting the requested songs and material posted on Guitar tricks.

Hi Sgt,

Things haven't changed must since I wrote this:

A lot your questions are the same questions I have for video streaming (like Netflix, etc). Why can I get this movie, and not that movie? Why can't I get a TV show episode from 8 weeks ago, when I can get the episode from six weeks ago? Do they really expect me to go to a completely different service on a completely different device and pay $3 for a TV show episode?

Publishers I think would benefit from a centralized clearinghouse for licensing, but instead they make individual deals with everybody. We work with the system that exists and so far we have been pretty successful. There is a long way to go, as you note, but we are working on it.

When we do get permission, we make sure to teach the song right, and to film it right, and that is what I am most proud of.
