Guitar plugged into computer

I am plugging my electric guitar into the mic jack on computer, sound does not come through speakers, can someone tell me how to adjust sound for it to work.

How are you plugging your guitar into the mic jack?

I am plugging directly from guitar jack to mic jack, using adapter 1/4 female to 3.55 male

If you wanted too plug it into your sound card you would plug it into the Line in not the mic jack, at least thats my best guess

I was in a band once who did the same thing when recording with Cubase. There was always a delay in the recording so we had to go back and sync it properly. Best thing is probably to get an audio interface with a USB connection.

If you are plugging into the "line in" on your computer, make sure in whatever your recording with, or playing through, has it's "input" and "output" set up properly.

First question; what are you trying to do? Are you just playing through your computer with some sort of effects program, or are you using some type of recording software? This will help clarify how to make sure you get the sound to come out and get what you need.
