One of my first flatpicking influences, and a long time family friend. I had the pleasure of picking with him a few times, and our family used to go to Deep Gap and cookout with his family sometimes.

He was a great man, and didn't consider himself handicapped because of his lack of sight. I didn't know he was blind, until my Daddy told me on the way back home after our first visit. He taught me lessons he didn't even know about, and some of the first tunes I learned to flatpick were from his records.

Rest in peace Doc, and I'll keep pickin' your licks. I'll have to figure out how to do it, and what I want to post, but I'll pass along some of the lessons Doc taught me to you all soon.
