Hi Tom,

You did a good job on Purple Haze. But, you looked like you were having way too much fun doing it. : ) I was really shocked to see how simple the lead was. I am looking forward to wrapping this one up. Thanks for doing this song. I've wanted to learn this one for a long time and have learned parts of it by ear over the years; but, since your lessons, it is going to be over before I know it.

Recently I bought a Marshall JMD:1 head, which made it easy to match the sound needed for Purple Haze. I used your suggested settings, flipped through the amps types, and there it was. Thanks.

It is funny how I can listen to a song and it sounds great, almost like magic, a song just like Purple Haze, then when I learn to play it, it's like, "Oh..." and it kind of looses some of the magic when you know it's secrets. But I guess to others, it still sounds like magic. Yet, it's always fun to play.

Thanks again for everything. I'm really enjoy your lessons.

Hey there, I am so glad you are enjoying Purple Haze! Yes funny how simple some of these songs can be when properly broken down and learned piece by piece. The magic: it is interesting to pick something apart and yet still keep it vital and magic. I believe that is much of being a musician... keeping the mystique for the listener!!! Keep up the great work and keep the fun and magic alive!!!

Cheers, Tom~

Tom, it is great seeing how much you get into these songs. Yes breaking them down does seem to simplify them somewhat. I am really enjoying purple haze. Just wish "I want you to want me" would come as easy to me as the others. I just don't get it. However thanks again for the effort you put into these songs. I am really connecting with your way of explaining the parts.

Don't want to take anything away from the others. I got Cleveland Rocks down easy, No More Mr Nice Guy easy etc. Chris Schlegel's tutorials are great also.

However What's your name opening riff down right of the bat. Slow ride was one of the easiest for me, so kudo's to you.

I am hoping you do Fat Bottom Girls

Hi Tom,

i´m a big Hendrix fan, so i´m very happy and proud with this new lesson.

Can you please take a look at the first 2 bars of the music sheet / tabs of "Purple Haze"?

I think it´s a little bit different of what have been teached in the video lesson.

Tks a lot. Beautiful song, you´ve breaked down and turned easy to learn and play in a fast way.
:) Azzi.

Hi Azzi. You are right, there is a low E missing on the "and of 3" in measure one in the tab! I will let the folks at GT know. Thanks for the heads up! I am glad that you are enjoying the tutorial, tear it up!!!

I noticed it also, however I took it like it was optional to throw that e in there. I am doing it.

Hi Tom,

Just wanted to thank you so much for the Purple Haze lessons. I've loved that song since I actually saw Jimi playing it at the Woburn Festival (in the UK) in the sixties -yes I'm that old. I never believed that I'd actually be able to play it, but now I (almost) can , thanks to you! I'm new to Guitar Tricks and it's a brilliant site - many thanks.

Yours, Steve

I am getting the song down well, however I noticed it's 112 on the metronome. I currently have sixteenth notes comfortably at about 94-95 when doing chromatic scales. Other than that I have the riff/bends etc down just need to up the tempo. However must play it slow then increase tempo.

Thanks again Tom!
