As far as the question goes PRS or Gibson I have owned both the Gibson LP is a great guitar however its heavy and does have some playable flaws.... I currently own a PRS Custom 24 SE 25th anniversary model the weight is half of the Gibson but play ability of it surpasses the Gibson, for one thing just the sustain of the PRS is just amazing can play a note set it on its stand walk away come back ten minutes later and it's still going the neck is just fantastic the pick up arrangement is great EMG 81 & EMG89 just rocks I can't say enough about PRS as I use to be an avid Gibson player from the getgo
However times change and so do guitar preference if you really want a great guitar I would have to say PRS offers many as long as it's your price range, speaking of that you get what you pay for so don't skimp on cost if you can afford it when you drop $1200-$2000 on a guitar you will have it the rest of your life, great workmanship, great sound and most of all a guitar you can be proud of
