How to get the Mark Knopfler sound?

Hi,

I'm trying to crack out Tunnel Of Love but I can't seem to get the Mark Knopfler sound right for the outro solo.

I'm using a Zoom G1XN effects pedal with slight delay & reverb and selector set to middle pickup with full tone.

I have a Aria STG guitar (typical start up guitar strat' type) through a Fender G_DEC 15 amp

Can anybody help me with advice perhaps on what I should be setting in relation to compression, reverb, delay etc.

He has one of those almost impossible tones to try and match. Especially since he plays with his fingers. I have no idea how to try, but hope someone points you in the right direction.

Actually its his playing technique which makes his tone. He play with a special fingerpicking technique - check some of his videos where you can see his picking hand and you will find out. Combination of this and a good hammer on - pull off technique.

On sound settings - Clean guitar with some delay or medium distorion with delay and he works a lot with the volume pedal.

...and remember that that tone you hear on the record has lots of engineering and production work behind it.
