Just to clear things up here, you guys are talking about triplets. There is a difference between triplets and triads. Triplets are rhythmic devices that contain three notes of equal length squeezed into one beat. A triad is a melodic device. It is basically the 1, 3, and 5 of a chord. For instance, if you played C, E, G, that is a major triad. Triads have all sorts of inversions.
