Well, that a very large question.
Take the C major scale, there are seven tones: C D E F G A B.
Each tone is the root for one chord. And each chord is made by superimposing thirds so you have CEG, DFA, etc.
Due to the major scale's structure, you get those chords:
C Dm Em F G Am Bb5. Or, if you consider 4 tones chords:
CM7 Dm7 Em7 FM7 G7 Am7 Bb57.
This is for the major scale. You can do the same with any mode, any scale...

Thats a pretty vague question.

Major; major Blues, Major scale(ionian), and Lydian

Minor; Dorian, Phrygian, Aoelian (natural minor), Harmonic minor, melodic minor, Blues

Dominant; Mixolydian, Blues

I left out a few hundred but these are the most common. You have to be a little more specific w/your questions (what chord{s}).

yeah , but you know what? you should find what is suitable for you. what sounds cool to you? you know? when me and my teacher jammed before i've used the A Minor pentatonic over an A major progression, and hey it sounded pretty cool! but you still should learn the basic guidelines, so that you know what your doing, etc. learn the I IV V, its easy

Could i get some hints on playing lead for church music? I play all the chords fine but that is so dull. I want to liven it up a little. Some suggestions are welcome.
