Does anyone know where to go and learn to repair effects pedals or books on these kind of repairs?

You could also take an electronics course and learn to fix all your gear.

There are many, many websites & books on this stuff! What kind of pedal are you trying to fix? If you type it into a Google search you will often get lots of hits.

Typically, the older or simpler pedals are easier to work on to modify. The newer ones with complex PCBs or ultra-miniture components are often difficult to repair without simply replacing entire boards.
