What FX are you looking for? Are you looking for just FX or do you want amp modeling as well?

I recently purchased a Line6 HD300 which is an amp modeler plus multi-effect pedals and a wah/volume pedal. It's got an incredible range of amps and effects that you connect in a practically infinite number of ways, all in one very sturdy metal case. There's also an HD400 and HD500 with even more options, but I won't use a fraction of the capabilities of the HD300.
It is not overly complicated to use, but it's not dead simple either. Plan on devoting a fair amount of time to really understanding how to set it up and get the tones you like. I've been playing with mine for a few weeks so far and felt comfortable enough to do my first gig with it last week.
There are several good video demos available on the Line6 site or on YouTube if you want to check it out.

I like the layout of the vox tonelab, it is very easy to use.

I play out (and sometimes record) with a Boss ME-25 through a Tech 21 power engine. It's got great tone and it's only $199. I've considered buying the Vox tone lab as well. I believe the tonelab is $199 also.

I like boss. In fact, just about every pedal I have is boss. Also have the boss big boy, the GT10. Awesome unit.
