I am an absolute beginner new here to GT. I just purchased an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and a Line 6 Spider IV 30 watt. I love them both and they sound great to me! I feel like they were a big improvement over the starter packs you see at the music stores. However, I did purchase them both used for total of $415 usd.

That is quite the beginner setup! Better then what I had at first ;-)

Haha! I remember when I got my first guitar for practicing. A First Act guitar off of the walmart shelf for 65, and a tiny 15 watt (I don't even think its a 15 watt, might be a 10 watt lol!) Amplifier. Again off of the walmart shelves.
At the time I thought it was the best guitar in the world. Now I've upgraded to a Jackson Dinky and a Line 6 Spider 3 75 watt amp.
I go and play the First Act now and I'm like "What kinda piece of crap is this!?!"
