I have signed up for the 20 free lessons. In looking as some of them(and doing the first ones)...it seems they are a mix of a few beginner..a few intermediate and some advanced lessons.

In other words they are NOT the first 20 lessons one would want... to beginning from square 1.... to square 20.

Rather they seem to be a sampler of what regular subscribed course work would be like.

True ? incorrect ?

Yes. They are targetting every level of musicians on GT, not just beginners. So its a good thing for them to show what they have in stock for all levels.
I have been here a year and a half and I'm telling you, dont hesitate :)
I have learn more in this time then on my own in many years.

I noticed that too! So I signed up for a month and will be here for many more. I decided to Learn in a cohesive manner how to play guitar, for the 3rd time in my life since my daughter wanted to learn. We also bought an inexpensive used piano and it is great to now see the common language of music between these two instruments.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

I wish I hadn't waited over a year to purchase full access! Now I'll probably just have GT in my monthly budget for the rest of my life! :)
