Hi
I am a beginner guitarist. Just started a month ago. I just wanted to know how much time does one needs to spend daily on a guitar to become quite playable in a couple of months and what basic exercise should one do daily to become better and better at picking and playing notes and chords?
Thanks in advanced.

Hi Nad, im a new player too, been playing about 8 weeks or so..dont know if anybody else thinks this but when you start playing the guitar it can get very addictive and so ive been practicing about 4 hours everyday, sometimes a bit longer as my fingers got stronger, not to mention sore and blistered ;-)
im sure you dont have to do that though. Im not really one to say what you should be doing for the best to learn all i can tell you is what i did, course it depends what music you like to play, for me its the blues so all i did was learn a blues scale or two and just hammered on them to some backing track or other, its fun and you learn as you go. course now im on here so im trying to learn the proper fundamentals and whotnot, but to start with doing something simple and fun can inspire you more than just knocking out the C major scale Do ri mi or whatever it is, while im sure its important, its about as much fun as watching paint dry.. (no offense to all you guitar tutors on here) ;-)
you can have a look at me playing here after only a few weeks, not brilliant but its fun all the same....

Hey Steve. Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it.
Yup your right by the way, its really addictive. I play for about an hour or two. Fingers do hurt still but gotten used to it. Still haven't figured out what style should i play, i am from India so gonna stick to classical with a mix of blues and rock. So i guess i will have to learn to play everything.
Gonna be a tough ride but you don't succeed without hard work.
By the way, pretty nice guitar you got there and nice playing too... :)
Enjoy

Hi Nadeemabd.
Welcome to GT..
Going through Fundamentals 1 and 2 in the core lessons would be the best place to start. Look thru the different style lesson and see what sound good to you..
Enjoy the trip and good luck..
