Hey there,

-One of the most important things about executing a barre chord is the position of your thumb as a support for the rest of your hand. Just try different positions, focusing on the relation between your thumb and index finger, and see which positions work best for you.

-You may also decide to look into picking up a light grip exerciser. Getting one that's too heavy won't help much at all, because it will be working different muscles than the ones you use for guitar. A lighter one will help your fingering hand, and you can even use it on your picking hand to develop strength.

-Keep in mind, that even when you're just practicing scales, you're still exercising and stretching your hands for general guitar playing- so keep playing your guitar! Even if you're not actually playing barre chords yet, you'll be well on your way!

I hope this helps you a bit. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to send us a message. We're here to help.

What I did is once I got the shape down. I would play a Gmaj (for instance) strum a half measure then slide it up the fret board, then back down. repeat till I could hold the shape and play all the chords cleanly. I did this and for hours and hours.
