Neck width

Can anyone guide me on acoustic guitar neck width? What are the advantages of a wider width? I am interested in learning some fingerstyle. I also have some trouble at times playing cleanly on my first three strings. Maybe there's a thread like this somewhere but I didn't find it.

The basic advantage of having a wide neck is that it's easier to finger chords if you have wide fingertips. But it also makes it harder to chord because your hand has to stretch farther.

You may want to go to your local music store and test the two different types and see if you still have the problem with the first three strings. At least this will narrow down a solution and give you some more personal insight on neck width.
