I personally would not. I would look around on eBay or a used guitar store and get something used. I got the Boss GT-3 for 200 bucks off of eBay. I'm a big believer in slightly used items (living on a budget and all). The best thing is if you are satisfied though...be sure to take you time and make sure it's what you want.

Whats the difference between the GT5 and the GT6?
I have the GT5 and have seen the GT6 several times at the music store. What I could see as the main difference was that the controls for manipulating the effects were through knobs instead of buttons in the GT5. Are there more effects?..??

Still haven't had the chance to try out the GT-6, but if I've understood correctly it's actually a cheaper box than the GT-5. The GT-5 is a very good effects box though, with a huge range of sounds that can be coaxed out of it. Used equipment is a good idea, but with effects it is important that nothing has happened to damage the circuitry, and that none of the input or output jacks are stuffed. Be hesitant about buying second-hand over the net unless it's from a music store or someone with very high feedback ratings. Otherwise, you'd probably be able to find some second-hand stores near where you live. You might ge lucky and find something you like.

And pay a premium for that convenience. I have never bought an effects pedal second-hand, but it is certainly worth considering. I bought a guitar second-hand and I can't imagine being any happier with a new one.

If you want something where it does not realy matter which guitar u are using, then get the Roland Virtual Guitar 88 (VG88)

It is a multi effects processor (foot pedal) that uses a special picup that u hafta place under your stings (whereelse).

Tis produces every sound u like (IT IS NOT MIDI):
If you wanna sound like Hendrix on woodstock - no problem - it even creates the typical Marshall-humming. You wanna play nylonstring ? no problem! you want differnt tunings without retuning the guitar? no problem.

its incredible - a MUST HAVE for every studio guitarist.
