playing A major with all 3 fingers in the second fret I screw up and on the B string my ring finger slips into the 3rd fret the sound doesn't suck what is it?

No idea how you name chords but all I know is that you are adding the 4th in the scale instead of the 3rd.

Was going to say that but I thought for some reason sus meant to take away a note. So I figured sus4 means without the 4th.

Actually, the "sus" is short for "suspended" and causes the 3 note of the
1-3-5 notes in the major chord to be displaced downward (sus2) or
upward (sus4).

Thus, for example, a Cmaj chord (C-E-G) would become Csus2 (C-D-G) or
Csus4 (C-F-G).
