Hi

Pretty new to playing the blues here, not guitar just the blues. I'm trying to deconstruct 'Midnight Rambler' and wondered what category of blues it fits under. I can't fit it into a standard pattern like 12 bar blues from listening to it. I'm guessing it must fit into some blues pattern or a style of blues i can investigate further to find the basis of the song.

any help appreciated.

Hi
some blues is just a riff that gets reapeated like "Midnight Rambler" or "Smokestack Lighting." In Midnight Rambler there is an intro riff, a rock and roll part, and a rubato part with no strict tempo or feel and these are just put around the song. Not all blues has to be a 12 or 8 bar form although the 12 bar form is extremely common.

Hope this helped

Hi Pete,

Anders is our blues king and best to answer this question. I'm going to copy this to his forum to see what he says.
