No Experience at all... is this for me?
The title says it all, I'd like to teach myself how to play and was wondering if that is possible solely using this site or if I'm better off getting personalized instructions?

Hi and welcome :-)
Well in response to your question, do you think you have the dedication and time to start practicing guitar? If so you have come to a good place for sure.
Of course not everyone has the same amount of time or picks up things as equally easy as others. But the Guitartricks Fundamentals for me were exactly what I needed when I first started out playing guitar without a personal teacher.
It is very structured, unlike a lot of websites that offer stuff without any structure, that's why the Guitartricks Core Learning System has the advantage over many other guitar websites in my opinion.
You can always try for a month, because the subscribtion fee on Guitartricks is a lot lower then most other websites, only $14.95.
Although I would like to mention something. I don't know what kind of music you are into, but get something to play as soon as you can, if it is a simple riff or song, it keeps you thrilled and excited about playing guitar. Most people abondon their guitar after they get bored with chords and patterns without playing any songs.
So again in short. Yes, if you are totally unexperienced like I was, the Guitatricks Core Learning is a good and structured way to get into guitar. Though you may have to find your own errors with some things, because you don't have a teacher that can point it out for you. On the other hand you can use this forum to ask your question and you can get answers from many others.
Ps after that Guitartricks offers more then sufficient stuff to keep you going on. Currently I'm an intermediate/early advanced player and the website keeps my guitar in use any time of year.
( For other people, I currently do not own a subscribtion, been away for a year and lost my previous accounts password, so this is a new account :-), going to re-active my subscribtion soon )

I've had no formal training with an instructor in a face to face setting. 98% of everything I've learned I've learned here. As mentioned, the site does a great job of organizing lesson plans. You start at the very beginning at guitar fundamentals 1 and 2, then branch off to either Rock, Country, Blues...
It's self paced so there is no rushing you through. There is a great support form where you can post questions directly to individual instructors. You will learn a LOT.
To be fair though, I wouldn't mind having some face to face time with an instructor but mostly just so they can watch what I'm doing and see what bad habits I might need to work on.

You can learn so much here. Like the others said. F1 and F2 are really essential. I played for a long time before I got here and it was a great review even for someone that had been playing for a good long while.
Also, doing things like Lisa M's spider fingers are really helpful too.

As a guitar teacher, I'll admit that I'm biased, but I think you will learn faster from a good guitar teacher.
That being said, this site is excellent and at the end of the day, your commitment and your perseverance are what will produce results.

Completely agree with JonChorba! Many people have learned guitar on their own but if you have a good teacher you will improve at a faster pace! This is a great website and learn all you can from it!

I have to put my vote in for a teacher...and this site! What I would recommend is starting out on a site like this, and then once you are pretty sure you want to conitinue then seek out a good teacher. I've had riffs I struggled with for weeks which were easily under my fingers after 10 mins. with my teacher. So I they both work really well together!
