Hello all!

I'm new to the site, but loving it so far. Been checking the blues route for a couple of days and it's already advanced my playing considerably. I usually play fingerstyle acoustic, but have been playing at the same level for years. Playing had become stagnant and boring for me, so the other day I thought, "right, get in gear."

As well as learn more about the guitar, I'm attempting to learn a piece that will challenge me - Layover by Michael Hedges.

It certainly is challenging me! Does anyone have any general tips in relation to this piece?

Cheers

Hi Ryhs,

Welcome!

That is a challenging piece. I would on a solid fingerpicking foundation, Lisa McCormick has some great exercises and tutorials in this style. It would be helpful to get used to keeping a solid rhythm while making chord changes and bass note changes for this song.

So much can be done when you're "in gear!" :)

Too true! I'll put the metronome on slow, with the intention of speeding it up when I'm comfortable. Thanks for the pointers, I'll have a look!
