Hi all, Just have signed up for a year. Love the site so far. I was wondering where to start as a beginner. Should I just start from the top, Or get into the chords first etc. I have been playing for around a week now and was wondering how long it takes to get your fingers used to fretting etc. Please advise

Cheers Julian.

Welcome Julian
there are many lessons on the site but the best starting point is the Guitar Fundamental 1:

Welcome to wonderful world of guitar players, I agree with Carmine start with Fundamentals 1 and go from there.
As far as when your fingers get use to it all, it depends each person is different. It all depends on how much practice you put in.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feed back. Its all new and I am very excited about Learning the guitar. I am starting with an Acoustic guitar for now, and depending on how I go, I will move on from there. It looks like its a great site to learn from and I am having lots of fun with it so far, apart from the sore fingers. LOL.

Cheers

Welcome Julian! If you're starting off with acoustic, check out Lisa McCormick's lessons. That's probably the biggest bang for your acoustic buck. Click on the instructors tab, then just look for Lisa's link.

Good Luck!

Whateva you do, don't give up because of the sore fingers, if you practice every day, your fingers will take about 2 to 3 weeks to get used to it, enjoy it! (maybe sounds like stupid advice, but I know people that have given up...sad)

I definatly have no plans to give up. I am 42 yrs old and I looking forward to learning this new hobby. I just hope it comes to me eventually, for example, the chords are hard to learn and change from one to another. I know they say, before you know it it will come second nature, so lets hope so.

Cheers Julian.
