Hi all you good people at GT, i have a small problem which i hope you can help me with.

When fingerpicking the G string, the fingernail on my index finger is scraping the winding of the G string, so that rather than getting a clean note it is almost a scratch. I don't have this issue on the B and high E strings as these are not wound.

The fingernails on my right hand are not excessively long.

Any thoughts?

Mike

Hi Mike,

My first thought would be to trim the nail as close as possible.

I'll direct this to Lisa McCormick, she may have some better suggestions.

I have the same issues except on the low E A and D strings. When I pluck the string it it goes at an angle so it "scratches" the string. Not sure if it is normal or if I should be trying to not do that.

I'm sure this is the issue, it is the 'angle of attack', i don't have a problem with my thumb on the lower strings. Maybe if i relocated my shoulder to the middle of my chest???
