Hey, Ive started GF2(loving it btw) a while now and I can do alternate picking, but I got this bad habbit that helps me pick in a more acurate way and faster.
So the problem is that I place my pinky where the guitar pickups are, sometimes I try not placing it on the pickups but somehow I end up doing so, but Im not sure if, by doing this I am somehow damaging them( because sometimes I feel that I apply too much presure on the pickups).
I would also like to know if I should stop placing the pinky there , because although it does help me alot to pick, it might be a very bad habit , because I dont see any pro's doing what I do, but it just feels confortable...:(

Anyway, I would also like to send a compliment to Mr.Christopher Schlegel for making the beginner's lessons fun to learn^^

Sorry for my bad english, cheers from Portugal <3

Ive uploaded a preview for you guys to see what my pinky does, in this case I am not placing it on the pickup, but thats because I tried really hard not to:

I would recommend trying not to do that with your pinky. It looks like it adds more tension to your picking hand then necessary. You want to have as little tension as possible. When you practice focus on keeping your picking hand relaxed especially your pinky. It will probably take a little to get use to but it will be beneficial in the long run!

It's not a bad habit IMO. You aren't pressing on the pick up, and it is common to use the pinky to balance when finger picking. For flat picking, I find I do the same thing, although my hand moves a lot depending on what I need it to do (mute, strum, etc). I still will hook "unused fingers" around the pick up for stability, balance against the pick guard or body... Whatever they feel like doing :)

I'd be interested to see if an instructor considers this a bad habit and why.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Thanks for the advice guys, I seem to pick better when I have my pinky near the pickups but Im not sure if I should keep it that way lol, anyway I'm trying to get used to picking without the help of my pinky too, thank you both :)
