Hi there. I'm new to the site, and working on Benetar's Best Shot. I'm having trouble getting the tone. I have the wrong equipment (Schecter and Marshall 2x12), but trying to compensate with my gear. Currently running: NoiseGate->Compression->Overdrive->EQ. Anyone already done this work? ;-) I realize I may simply have different gear, but if anyone can add or detract effects, that would be great.

Thanks!

Jabrose,

You've got a perfect setup for this sound, just don't use too much gain/distortion. Neil Gerardo has a semi-distorted sound.

I would start with just the overdrive and the marshall, keep the marshall fairly clean and get your drive from the overdrive pedal. Add marshall gain as needed.

From this point you should get a good basic tone then add your other pedals if you feel it needs it.

I seem to recall that Neil used lots of Strat and a BC Rich or two in the early days of Benatar recordings. So, you may want to 'thin out' the tone a bit too.

I had my gain too high on the amp. turned it down some and it sounds better. original gear was Fender Tele, so I'm never going to get it exact...but I'm much closer. thanks!
